Dr R Kannan re-elected president of Impcops

151545kannan All candidates of the Puthuvidiyal panel contested for the election to the board of directors of the Indian Medical Practitioners Co-operative Pharmacy and Stores Ltd (Impcops) in Chennai have emerged victorious by winning an average of 92 per cent of the total votes polled, sources from the multi-state co-operative society informed.

The incumbent president of the Impcops, Dr R Kannan has been re-elected president of the society for the next five years term, comprehensively defeating the opposite panel led by Dr Muruga Ganapathy.

Dr Kannan’s panel, Puthuvidiyal (New Era) has won all the 16 seats in the board directors’ election gaining over 2,000 votes each by every candidate. Election was held for 13 seats only as there were no opposite candidates for Puthuvidiyal team in three zones, Kerala, Karnataka and Tanjore. The panel has won 92 per cent of the total votes polled.

According to information received from the Impcops, the candidates of the opposite panel, Vidi Velli (Rising Star) gained less than 300 votes each. The election was held at the Impcops office at Thiruvanmiyur from morning to evening on Sunday, June 19, and the result came out on Monday. The total votes polled were 2,619.
After being re-elected, Dr. Kannan, the seasoned Siddha physician-cum-association leader said he is happy that the members of Impcops have reposed faith in him. He hopes to work further to elevate the society to the expectations of the Siddha, Ayurveda and Unani practitioners and make available quality medicines at affordable prices to all. Dr Kannan is a Siddha medical officer at Erode under the government of Tamil Nadu. A post-graduate in siddha, he holds several key positions in various associations of Ayush medical officers in national level including Indian Siddha Society. He was first elected president of the Impcops in 2017 as the panel chief of Government Siddha Doctors Association.
Talking about his future plans to develop the multi-state cooperative society, the president said in another five years the turnover of the company will be raised to Rs. 100 crore. During the last tenure of his panel, there was an increase of Rs. 30 crore in the total revenue of the company. He said manufacturing facilities will be set up in other states and more depots will be opened in neighboring states and also in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry to create more employment opportunities for siddha and Ayurveda graduates. Besides, he has a plan to modernize the existing manufacturing unit in Chennai.
