Strand Life Sciences has launched the ‘Spread Pink. Spread Courage.’ campaign this October to commemorate the Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Under the initiative,  the Cheers to Life Foundation along with Strand Life Sciences organized the ‘Life is Beautiful with Yoga’ camp at Anatomy Gym in New Delhi.  The camp was supported by YogVandana, Anatomy Gym and Narinder Bhatia.

Research shows that breast and ovarian cancers are the most recorded types of hereditary cancer along with being one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths. According to GLOBOCAN, 145 000 new cancer cases were diagnosed and 70 000 deaths occurred in India in 2012. The ratio of number of deaths to new cases in India was 48.3%, which was much higher as compared with 18.9% in the United States and 25.4% in the European Union.

The burden of breast cancer on the Indian health-care system is on the rise.  It calls for awareness and education programs to persuade women to get themselves checked early.  There will be a  series of digital and  on-ground campaigns to celebrate the spirit of survival among cancer patients.

“Being a cancer survivor myself,  we honour all the women who are touched by breast cancer and aim to create more conversations around the disease that affects most women in India. It is extremely emotional to see such a huge number of participants come out for a cause as important as breast cancer, said Dimple Bawa, Founder and President,  Cheers to Life Foundation.

According to Dr. Vijay Chandru, Chairman and Managing Director, Strand Life Sciences, with a  high incidence of this disease among Indian women, it is absolutely necessary for us to help people with early detection, education and lend support for personalized therapies.
