The Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad has brought in revolutionary changes in the hospital to provide hassle free and cost effective high quality healthcare services to the patients. As part of this, recently the NIMS administration has introduced a mobile software application called ‘NIMS-App’ using which outpatients can register themselves online and avoid standing in long queues.

Earlier, the patients who wish to get treatment in NIMS used to come early in the morning and stand in long queues to get them registered for treatment. The process of registration used to be very much tiring and sometimes sick patients also fell unconscious unable to stand in the long queues. Now with the introduction of ‘NIMS-App’, patients can download the app in their mobile phones and can register online by providing all the details using the app. Once the filling up of all patient details is over, a permanent registration number will be generated and the same can be referred at the Outpatient counter and get a printout slip and accordingly can consult the related doctors based on the time slot given to the patients.

Similarly the new app also provides the option of online medical reports for the patients. Earlier, the patients who used to give their blood and urine samples for medical diagnosis, it used to take more than 12-24 hours for getting the medical reports manually. However, using the new ‘NIMS-APP’ now the patients can access their medical reports online within one or two hours.  “We have introduced the ‘NIMS-App’ to help facilitate the out patients get hassle free medical treatment. This app comes in to operation from Monday and I hope people will utilise this app and get better medical services,” informed Dr. Manohar, Director, NIMS.

For saving the medical and diagnostic reports of all patients a special server is installed. Unlike earlier, where the patient used to roam from one building to other for getting the medical reports, this new app has enabled all medical reports available online. “The diagnostic reports of the patients will be stored in the NIMS server. The patients need not physically carry the medical reports.  They just need to refer their permanent registration number to the doctor. The doctor will get access to all the medical reports of the concerned patients in his computer,” said the Director.

In addition to introduction of NIMS-App, the leading hospital has also installed most advanced medical facilities for the treatment of lung cancer patients. E-BUS Endoscopy unit with a cost of Rs. 3 crore is installed. E-Bus is one of the most advanced equipment introduced for the first time in any government hospital in Telangana. Even the super speciality corporate hospitals in the state do not have this facility, said the director.
