KMC to introduce psychiatry & radiotherapy courses, hopes to get additional PG seats

The state run Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) in Warangal district is proposing to introduce two new courses in psychiatry and radiotherapy from the coming academic year 2018-19. As part of this the management of the medical college has already sent proposals to the Medical Council of India for its approval. In addition to this, the state government is also planning to add 51 more post graduate medical seats, for which proposals are sent to MCI.

“There is a huge demand for post graduate medical courses in the state and in view of this we have decided to introduce two more PG courses from the coming academic year and have also sent proposals add 51 more PG seats to the existing 110 PG seats at present,” informed Dr. V. Chandrasekhar, Principal, KMC, Warangal.

As against a proposed increase of 51 seats, the KMC management is confident of at least increasing 34 PG seats this time. As the college is planning to introduce two new PG courses of psychiatry and radiotherapy, it is expecting to add 4 PG seats in each category and proposals for the same have been sent to the MCI.

In addition to the existing 110 post graduate medical seats at KMC, the college management have sent proposals to increase 13 seats in Doctor of Medicine (MD) gynaecology, 13 seats in MD anaesthesia, 6 MD seats in Paediatrics and 2 MD seats each in radiology, ENT and DVL course.

Apart from this, the KMC administration has also sent proposals to enhance PG seats in other departments. “We have complied with all the MCI norms and even appointed adequate staff of the newly established psychiatric department. We have recently appointed a professor, associate professor and assistant professor and also set up all the necessary require infrastructure facilities as per the MCI norms and we are confident that we will get approval for 4 PG seats in Psychiatry department,” said Dr. Chandrasekhar.

The Kakatiaya Medical College is one of the oldest Government Medical Colleges set up during the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state. It is serving the people of Northern Telangana, on par with Osmanai and Gandhi Medical Colleges in Hyderabad.
