The Pharmacy Training Institute (PTI), Bengaluru has been accredited by the Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Corporation (LSSSDC) as a vocational training partner for the industry.
The six courses, which have been certified to conduct, are production/manufacturing chemist, quality assurance chemist, quality control chemist, manufacturing assistant life sciences, maintenance assistant life sciences and medical sales representative. The classes commence from first week of March 2018 at the Institute.
In a communication to PTI, Ranjit Madan, chief executive officer, LSSSDC said that the certificate of accreditation is subjected to strict compliance of protocol. The Institute will have to comply with all conditions, laid down by LSSSDC to maintain its registration.
The key benefits of its accreditation are that the pharma industry across the state can ensure that all the employees are trained. Moreover, the move to gear up all the workforce in the pharma industry ensues from the August 2016, Drug Controller General of India circular which stipulated to upgrade the skill sets across pharma-biotech industry beginning from January 1, 2018. In order to improve the quality of pharmaceutical products, the DCGI sees that it is imperative for all the personnel in drug manufacturing units to undergo the certification programmes developed by the LSSSDC. K Sampath Kumar from LSSSDC is the Karnataka coordinator.
Following this now Karnataka Drugs and Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (KDPMA) is in the process of tabulating the requirements of training based on the DCGI circular for existing and new employees, Uma Nandan Misra, Dean, Pharmacy Training Institute, told Pharmabiz.
Misra underwent a week-long train the trainers programme organised by LSSSDC to be qualified to take on the onus of conducting the course.
The 10-year old PTI offers eight programmes. Now we are gearing up to align our curriculum to LSSSDC format, he added.
Sharing the details of the course, Misra said that production/manufacturing chemist, quality assurance chemist, quality control chemist and the medical sales representative course will be 10 weeks programme. The manufacturing assistant life sciences, maintenance assistant life sciences will span for 5 weeks. There will be practical exposure in the industry for both experienced and fresh graduates /post graduates. The fees structure is being finalized for each course and the same will be approved shortly by PTI trustees like Prof. V.B.Desai, Suresh Khanna, J.P.Mady, C.P.Bothra and others. Further, there will be an examination where government of India will send its team to assess the candidate before the certificate is issued.
Yet another development is that the Karnataka State Pharmacy Council has teamed up with PTI by signing an MoU to organise training programme for community pharmacists on a regular basis.
