To elucidate how various stakeholders can work together to not only enable successful implementation of the programme, but also to take a step towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) is organising Ayushman Bharat conclave – ‘A Big Leap towards Universal Health Coverage in India’-- on December 4, 2019 at Hotel The Lalit, New Delhi.

The principal focus of this conclave is to identify the engagement and expertise of private sector in strengthening the key functional areas of Ayushman Bharat programme.

Fulfilling the vision of Ayushman Bharat programme will take alignment on policies, financing solutions, private sector involvement and healthcare innovations.

In a country of almost 1.4 billion people that is home to one-third of global maternal deaths, where public spending for health accounts for roughly one per cent of GDP and where 60 million people fall into poverty every year because of healthcare bills, fixing healthcare through a path-breaking Universal Healthcare Programme called Ayushman Bharat is a daunting task, that will determine the world's performance against the sustainable development goals over the coming decade.

In order to sustain this revolutionary programme, there is an urgent need to bring systematic enhancement in the healthcare system which drives on four wheels - the providers (hospitals), the pharmaceutical, the medical technology and the health insurance industry.

Ayushman Bharat is a centrally sponsored scheme launched in 2018, under the Ayushman Bharat mission. The scheme aims at making interventions in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems, covering both preventive and promotive health, to address healthcare holistically. It is an umbrella of two major health initiatives namely, health and wellness centres and national health protection scheme (NHPS).

ASSOCHAM is one of the apex trade associations of India. The organisation represents the interests of trade and commerce in India, and acts as an interface between issues and initiatives. The goal of this organisation is to promote both domestic and international trade, and reduce trade barriers while fostering conducive environment for the growth of trade and industry of India. Having in its fold over 400 Chambers and Trade Associations, and serving over 4.5 lakh members across India. ASSOCHAM has emerged as the fountainhead of knowledge for Indian industry, which is all set to redefine the dynamics of growth and development in the knowledge based economy.
