Following the health advisory issued by the Union Ayush Ministry recently recommending homeopathy medicines as effective medication for prevention of the novel coronavirus (nCoV) infection, the Directorate of Ayush under the Manipur Government has directed all the Ayush hospitals in the state to adopt the homeopathic medicine, Arsenicum Album 30, as a prophylactic drug against the infection.
Arsenicum Album is one of the fifteen most important remedies in Homoeopathy.
The directorate has wanted all the institutions under it to distribute the medicine as a preventive measure from the infection. It should be given in the prescribed dose as per central ministry’s protocol. Each person has to take four pills of Arsenicum Album once daily in empty stomach for three days as a preventive measure. The schedule may be resumed after one month if the corona virus infection still persists in the locality, says the circular.
Dr. Y Lukhoi Singh, director of the Ayush directorate has issued a circular in this regard to the 50 bedded integrated Ayush hospital in Imphal, to the medical superintendent of the 10 bedded homeopathy hospital in the city, and to all the district Ayush institutions and state health system hospitals.
On 28th January this year, the 64th meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board under the Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH) discussed the ways and means of prevention of coronavirus infection through homeopathy. The homeopathic experts who attended in the meeting recommended that homeopathy medicine, Arsenicum Album 30, could be taken as a preventive medicine from corona virus infection. Accordingly, the ministry of Ayush issued the health advisory recommending the drug as prophylactic.
Responding to the recommendation by the central ayush ministry, Dr. Jayachandran, an allopathic doctor working under the National Health Mission at Adoor government hospital in Kerala, said the World Health Organisation is the supreme authority to suggest what kind of medication or therapy to be administered as a prophylactic medicine to prevent the world wide virus infection. He said the efficacy of Ayush medicines, Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy, has not scientifically proven, so it cannot be recommended as a preventive.
He further said there is no specific medicine in allopathy system to address the spread of the present coronavirus infection.
