The president of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Dr T V Narayana, has been selected for the prestigious 2020 FAPA Ishidate Award under the education category. FAPA is the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations which guides Asian pharmacists and pharmacy organizations to achieve professional excellence.
Dr Narayana is one among the five Asian pharmacy professionals selected from the categories of Community Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Industry, Pharmaceutical Research and Pharmacy Education, besides the one selected for Life Time Achievement Award.
Announcing the names of the award winners, the chairperson of the FAPA 2019-2022 Awards Committee, Dr Yolanda Robles said FAPA has decided to honour the pharmacists in recognition of their exemplary services to different areas of pharmacy profession and the selection was made after a thorough evaluation of 17 highly qualified nominations from the member associations.
The award will be presented to Dr Narayana in the opening ceremony of the 28th FAPA Congress to be held at the KLCC Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia from 6th to 10th April 2021. During the congress each recipient has to deliver a speech on the respective area of their profession.
Winners of other categories are Dr. Soo-Ja Nam of South Korea (Life Time Achievement), Chin-Shun Huang of Taiwan (Community Pharmacy), Hazel Faye Ricaforte Docuyanen of Philippines (Hospital Pharmacy), Dr Mohammad Abdur Rashid of Bangladesh (Pharmaceutical Research) and Dr Noppadon Adjimateria of Thailand (Pharmaceutical Industry).
After hearing news of winning the award, Dr Narayana said he is so happy that his services rendered to IPA, especially to pharmacy education, have now been recognized internationally. “It gives me more encouragement and enthusiasm to work further and strengthen collaborative activities with countries of Asian region”. Dr Narayana is the director of three pharmacy institutions, Vikas College of Pharmacy in Rajamundri in Andhra Pradesh, SBD Institute of Pharmacy in Bengaluru and Dr HLT College of Pharmacy in Ramanagara in Karnataka. He has been serving IPA for the last 30 years and in 2016 he was honoured with IPA Eminent Pharmacist Award.
Congratulating Dr Narayana on his winning the international award, the national president of the Students Forum of the IPA, Pragna Ella said the pharmacy students in India are proud of associating with him and the news about the award shares the enthusiasm and inspiration with all students of pharmacy in the country.
