The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Maharashtra has stated that the government of Maharashtra has accepted to include all the private doctors in the COVID-19 vaccine database, in regard to response to the unrest amongst the 2,50,000 doctors in Maharashtra.

In a video conference meeting with IMA Maharashtra, which included the Maharashtra state president Dr Avinash Bhondwe, MMC president Dr Shivkumar Utture and the presidents and secretaries of all the branches of IMA in Maharashtra, Deputy Director of Public Health Department, Dr Archana Patil, and joint director Dr D N Patil explained the procedure to upload the information regarding the doctors and their staff.

All the private doctors will upload this information on the vaccine database website and submit it to the civil surgeons of their respective districts, by 12th November 2020.

Earlier, IMA has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the state government was discriminating with doctors in private services for distribution of COVID-19 vaccine, which is expected to be available in the next three months.

IMA stated that the health secretary of Maharashtra had changed the guidelines given by the Central government and only included ‘Doctors registered with the district’, were introduced in parenthesis, while enumerating the private medical facilities.

The Government of Maharashtra had excluded all the private doctors by a circular addressed to all the District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and Divisional Commissioners in Maharashtra, on October 13, 2020. The circular was against the guidelines proposed by the Government of India, who had proposed the both the government and private doctors to be included in the COVID19 vaccination.

“Along with government doctors, private medical professionals have also played a key role in treating patients in the corona epidemic. Of the 61 private doctors who died of corona in Maharashtra, the number of general practitioners and private clinic owners was higher,” the association stated.

As per the guidelines given by the central government, many of the states in India have begun to include private doctors in their database.
