Only 8 drugs found to be NSQ out of 644 samples in CDSCO’s random sampling for October 2020

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) in its monthly surveillance report pan-India has declared 636 as standard quality (SQ) based on analysis and testing done on 644 samples in October 2020 done through its random sampling exercise.

However, it concluded that there were only 8 samples which were declared as not of standard quality (NSQ) with one declared of spurious quality.

The manufacturers of the drugs are based in Chennai, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bengaluru, Maharashtra and Gujurat.

The 8 NSQ drugs include propylene glycol IP manufactured by Manali Petrochemicals Limited, Chennai which failed the test of water. Ondansetron tablets IP 8 mg manufactured by Unicure India, Uttar Pradesh which failed the test of description. Verticot – 8 tablets (betahistine DiHCL tablets IP) manufactured by Mascot Health Series Pvt. Ltd, Uttarakhand for failing the test of assay dissolution and Linezolid tablets IP 600 mg failed the test of dissolution based on the analysis done by Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL), Kolkata.

It includes amoxycillin oral suspension IP 125mg/5ml dry syrup manufactured by Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceuticals limited, Bengaluru which failed the test of assay based on the analysis done by Central Drugs Testing Laboratory (CDTL), Mumbai.

Another drug includes methylcobalamin, benfotiamine, folic acid, chromium polynicotinate, myoinositol and pyridoxine hydrochloride tablets (nuhenz tablets) manufactured by Standord Laboratories Pvt. Ltd, Himachal Pradesh for failing the test of assay of chromium polynicotinate, Iso propyl alcohol IP manufactured by Deepak Fertilizers & Petro Chemicals, Maharashtra which failed the test of water and Iso propyl alcohol IP manufactured by Gujrat Chempac Pvt. Ltd. Valsad Gujarat failed the test of water based on the analysis done from Regional Drugs Testing Laboratory (RDTL), Chandigarh.
