CPA endeavors to strengthen role of pharmacists in delivering quality healthcare: Dr Vadlamudi

Stressing that the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA) is endeavoring to strengthen the role of pharmacists and the quality of healthcare services delivered by them across all the third world countries, CPA president Dr Rao Vadlamudi said that apart from doctors and nurses who are delivering healthcare services, the role of pharmacists is also equality important in delivering quality healthcare to the people across the globe.

As part of this initiative, the CPA is said to have endeavored to strengthen the role of pharmacists in delivering quality healthcare services to the patients across all the poor Commonwealth countries in the world.

Dr Vadlamudi, who had earlier served as president of Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) has been re-elected for second time as president of the CPA in September this year and had been working to strengthen the role of pharmacists across all the third world nations who are part of the CPA.
In fact, the IPA had nominated the name of Dr Rao Vadlamudi for the CPA president position for the second time and he has been successfully got re-elected to the post on September 26, this year. Earlier Dr Rao had served as CPA president from 2017-19 and now after re-election, he will be the only second person from India to serve as CPA president. His tenure is expected to last for two years from 2020-2022. Earlier Dr J N Banerjee had served as the CPA president from 1982-1987.

Emphasizing on his role as the CPA president, Dr Rao said that the main objective of CPA is to support the development of safe and effective systems of medicines management, healthier lifestyles, and thereby to reduction of health inequalities. “Our focus is to improve the quality of pharmacy practice across all the poor common wealth countries in the world. We are trying to achieve this through building strong collaborative networks, partnering with member organizations and creating platforms for the dissemination of knowledge about pharmaceutical sciences and professional practice,” observed Dr Vadlamudi.

During his stint as IPA president from 2014-2018 Dr Rao Vadlamudi ably led the Association in organizing successful international and national events including the 61st International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF) World Congress in 2015.  

During this period, he also initiated advocacy with the Indian government, pushing forth policy inputs and documents, furthering the cause of pharmacists and the pharmacy profession in the country.

An  academician par  excellence and  an  eminent  scientist  with  an  impeccable knowledge base, Dr Rao Vadlamudi has also had an illustrious stint with the industry where he has led teams of scientists in cutting edge drug discovery programs in companies like Hoechst India Ltd (Sanofi) and Nektar Therapeutics India Limited.
