Pharmacy week celebration to highlight importance of pharmacists’ services to society: TN IPA

Peethaambaran Kunnathoor, Chennai
Friday, November 20, 2020, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

The Tamil Nadu branch of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (TN IPA) will highlight the importance of pharmacists’ services to the society in the programmes of the 59th pharmacy week celebration across the state on November 21.

The association has decided to conduct the program online in association with the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Dr MGR Education and Research Institute, Chennai from 2 pm onwards on the day.

Different from the themes adopted for the celebrations in previous years, the doyens of the pharmacist fraternity find that this year’s theme, ’Pharmacists – Frontline Health Professionals’, becomes most appropriate at the present time as the pharmacists in the country have played vital roles in the efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus along with other health workers.

“Although several other health workers are there in the healthcare team, a pharmacist is the frontline health worker whom the patients meet more often than a doctor or a nurse. Even when the doctors were/are not working, the pharmacists were/are working day and night in the pandemic period. This highlights the importance of this year’s theme”, said J Jayaseelan, chairman of TN IDMA and pharmacist leader while briefing Pharmabiz about the 59th pharmacy week celebration.

The virtual program will be inaugurated by Dr K Chinnaswamy, president of the Indian Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (IACP) and the presidential address will be delivered by Dr S Manivannan, president of TN IPA.

J Jayaseelan and T Satheesh will speak on the theme representing TN IPA as special guests. Dr. B Jaykar, PCI member from Tamil Nadu and Dr. S. Sreeram, HoD of Pharmacy Practice at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Coimbatore will also convey messages on the theme through virtual platform.

Dr S Geethalekshmi, vice-chancellor of the Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute will introduce the speakers and guests to the online audience.
