IPA Mysore event with Sarada & JSS Pharmacy colleges sees need for pharmacists to research on new drugs to ease future pandemics

Pharmacists have been called upon to research on novel drugs to offset pandemics in the future, according to a panel of experts deliberating at the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) Mysore branch in association with Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy and the JSS College of Pharmacy event organized on the World Pharmacists Day observed annually on September 25.

The panel of experts comprised Dr G Hemant Kumar, vice chancellor, University of Mysore, Dr K R Dakshayani, principal, Mysore Medical College and Research Institute, Dr KH Prasad, district health officer, Mysore and Dr Manjunath M, vice president, IPA Mysuru.

Post the event inauguration, Dr. Hemant Kumar, said that the job opportunities in the pharmaceutical industries were promising as it provided a platform for students to have hand-on experience and exposure to the advanced technologies.

Stating that the ongoing Covid pandemic has given considerable importance to pharmaceutical care, Dr Kumar noted that this fraternity needs to come up with newer products to alleviate such pandemics. He also lauded the efforts of pharmacists and their involvement in telemedicine and Covid care centers, which helped the district administration during the challenging phase of the corona virus disease spread.

Dr. Prasad, appreciated the efforts of pharmacists in vaccine vigilance and management of Covid inoculation across Mysuru district which was being carried out systematically and with dedication.

Dr Hanumanthachar Joshi, Principal, Sarada Vilas College of Pharmacy, emphasized the need for all pharmacist organizations to come together and meet up at least once in a month to share views to offset challenges. Indian Railways, state government pharmacists, pharmacy chemist outlets and community pharmacists need to exchange the current trends with each other so that, the public and patients benefits out of it.
