As part of the state government’s initiative to comprehensively improve healthcare infrastructure facilities in all the government hospitals across the state, the state health minister T Harish Rao announced that the government is soon going to set up the PICUs at all the district hospitals and the Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad will act as a centre of excellence that will be responsible to guide and nurture the upcoming 33 paediatric ICUs across the state.

The remaining PICUs in 27 district hospitals will be developed with a capacity of 42 beds and the total cost of constructing these PICUs is pegged at Rs. 71.74 crore.

Of the 42 bed capacity PICU hospitals, the government has decided to dedicate 30 beds with oxygen supply support while the remaining 12 beds in each district hospital will have ICU care facilities for sick children. In all the 27 districts the health department will add about 1134 additional paediatric beds dedicated to provide high end IC care facilities to sick children below 16 years of age.

The government has proposed to set up the new 27 PICUs in Bhadrachalam, Malakpet, Jagitial, Jangoan, Gadwal, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Medak, Mulugu, Nagarkurnool, Miryalaguda, Narayanpet, Nirmal, Bhodhan, Godavarikhani, Sircilla, Kondapur, Sangareddy, Gajwel, Huzurnagar, Tandur, Wanaparthy, Bhongir and at MGM Hospital in Warangal district.

“Our government’s main objective is to provide highest quality healthcare to the people of the state. Accordingly we are taking various steps to improve the healthcare infrastructure in the government sector and providing the best of best healthcare services to the public free of cost.
