Karnataka government has now inked a pact with the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) to strengthen its public health settings through innovative and indigenous med-tech solutions.
C-CAMP is part of the Department of Biotechnology of the Union government and has made several notable efforts in the area of deep-tech and has an advanced innovation based out of the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) campus in Bengaluru.
The collaboration will facilitate identification, implementation and field integration of several healthcare novel technologies. This will be for augmenting the medical infrastructure across the 31 districts in the state, said the Karnataka health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Rao, who announced the partnership, said that this would bolster the much-needed medical services across the primary and tertiary hospitals in the urban and rural areas. In fact, the pact was signed by the Karnataka health commissioner D Randeep and Dr Taslimarif Sayied, director, C-CAMP a week ago.
As a matter of fact, the Minister, who had visited C-CAMP campus recently, said that improved diagnostics and screening at the last mile is vital for prevention of chronic diseases and to keep lifestyle disorders at bay. Even early detection will enable speedy access to treatment protocols which will help patients save medical expenses.
In this regard, Karnataka healthcare department is prioritizing the two areas of early screening and fast detection to accelerate the pace of healthcare services in the state. It will also give startups housed within the C-CAMP opportunities to commercialize their novel technologies. This according to the department is its mode of nurturing high quality home grown companies in the lifesciences space which includes medical devices.
To this end the pact with C-CAMP will be an immediate and positive step in the right direction enabling speedy access to time-tested diagnostic devices, said Rao.
C-CAMP’s existing Digital Health portfolio includes over 70 deep-tech start-ups covering broad gamut of specialized areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), genomic data analysis, healthcare analytics/big data, computer assisted diagnosis, Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual & Augmented Reality, wearables, and other similar technologies. With the partnership with the Karnataka health department, gives an opportunity to implement these market ready devices and relevant health technologies. This according to the officials will usher in unprecedented growth for Digital Health in India.
