To commemorate World Diabetes Day on November 14, Lifespan Clinic is undertaking a series of activities for an entire week to focus on diabetes awareness, detection and management. The activities will be carried out to respond to the need in the country for a lot more diabetes awareness.

The awareness will be carried on prediabetes, a condition that progresses into diabetes. This is a stage where much can be done to delay or avert diabetes, where India is heading towards a figure of 20 crore prediabetics; regular monitoring of the diabetic patient to check if there are complications or these are worsening; full and proper use of glucometer and pedometer in maintaining better health.

Diabetes has been termed a 'silent killer' as it shows no tell-tale or attention-getting symptoms. It can also cause organ damage and it affects important systems in your body even by the time you are declared diabetic. People always go for blood tests with fasting, but there is hope that with easier and simpler methods, many more of them will be screened early. Lifespan's RISC test is a non-invasive, rapid, painless test which is particularly suited for people who typically put off going for check-ups and tests.

Knowledge plays an important weapon to fight diabetes. Lifespan Clinic uses various mediums viz: websites, videos and other materials to help a diabetic patient for contributing a better understanding, better attitude and better action. Thus from SMS-es to tele-documentaries, these mediums can be used to spread information about diabetes.

Lifespan's Blue Circle Challenge, a recent initiative where roadshows and outdoor programmes were conducted for people to spare few minutes and to answer few printed questions. Based on this, there was a spot assessment of how likely it is that they need to be screened for diabetes. This programme boosted diabetes awareness, which is the basis for promoting early detection.
