Dr. Linu. P. Mohan, an experienced professor of pharmacy practice at the Al Shifa College of Pharmacy at Malappuram district in Kerala has been bestowed with the ‘Best Pharmacy Teacher Award 2022’ instituted by the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). The prestigious award of the state health university was presented to him by the vice-chancellor, Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal at a ceremony organized as part of the university’s foundation day celebration recently. After receiving the award, Dr Mohan said the health university has instituted seven awards of excellence for teachers of medical science, nursing, pharmaceutical science, Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, dental science and para-medical and allied sciences. According to him, the university has instituted the awards to identify and felicitate extraordinary pedagogues and recognize their excellence in the field of teaching and mentoring students to a good career path. Sources from the university informed that it had received more than two applications each from various departments of all the 54 pharmacy colleges in Kerala, including the four government institutions. Sources said this is not the first time Dr Mohan was awarded for excellence in teaching. He joined Al Shifa in the year 2011, but started his career as a teacher in 2009 at Jamia Salafiya Pharmacy College in Malappuram. Apart from the prescribed educational qualifications, the criteria for the selection of awards include teaching experience, participation in CMEs, examinership, research publications, authorship, administrative duties, student support activities, editorial capacity and contributions in social outreach activities. The other award winners are Dr.PS John (Medical Science, Pushpagiri Medical College, Thiruvalla), Dr. T. Premalatha (Govt. Nursing College), Princy Mathew (Physiotherapy), Dr.N J Jeena (Ayurveda, Kottakkal Ayurveda College), Dr. R Ampili (PMS Dental College) and Dr. P. Abdul Hameed (Homoeopathy).
