Dr R A Mashelkar has resigned as a chairman of the technical expert group on Patent Law. The new development has happened days after the central government asked him to correct the technical inaccuracies in his report. He has submitted the report in the month of December last year.
Talking with Pharmabiz from his residence in Pune, Dr Mashelkar said, that, "I had submitted his resignation to the central government". But he did not disclose any reason for its resignation.
The expert committee on Feb 19 withdrew its report after it was found that 10-12 lines were copied from a paper published by the Intellectual Property Institute of the University Of Oxford, UK. The report examined whether India's patent laws complied with the World Trade Organization's agreement on Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs).
Mashelkar is a former director general of the council for scientific and industrial research, the government's top scientific body.
