Dr Ashok B Vaidya, research director, Kasturba Health Society, Medical Research Centre, Mumbai passed away last night (July 8 2024). Over the years, his contribution to bridge between modern pharmacology and traditional medicine led to a deeper appreciation of Ayurved approaches.
He is credited with amplifying the approach of reverse pharmacology, now regarded as a robust validation in traditional medicine. Many key lectures, papers, articles, committee decisions resulted in related policies and schemes which even led to collaboration between CSIR and Ayush. Following this, Dr Vaidya is said to have stated, “The age of renaissance in Ayurved has dawned”.
Dr Vaidya, like many in his generation were part of the establishment of Ayurveda Drug Manufacturers Association (ADMA). Amongst many such platforms, he inspired many legacy programmes like the Update Ayurved, New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI), CSIR Golden Research Triangle, successive Planning Commission Reports, Ayurved sectors application to House of Lords UK even has his stamp of contribution, said Dr DBA Narayana, CSO, Ayurvedic Trust.
