Karnataka government has appointed Dr Umesh S, additional drugs controller of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) as the licensing authority. A communication note from the state government stated that Dr Umesh would be at the helm of licensing authority except with regards to the operation of blood centres, blood storage units and VII A related to manufacture of Homoeopathic Medicines of Drug Rules 1945.
With immediate effect, Dr Umesh will be the controlling authority and approving authority for the purpose of Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940, and all relevant rules thereunder for Karnataka, stated the government notification.
Further as per the provisions of Rule 60 and 67-B of the Drug Rules 1945, the Licensing Authority is permitted to delegate the power to sign licenses and such other powers specified in the order to any other officers under his control, for the purpose of Part VI and VI A of the Drug Rules 1945, stated the government communication note.
