Hailing the promotion of Lalit Kumar Goel to the rank of State Drugs Controller-cum-Licensing Authority for Haryana, the state Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (HPMA) expressed profound confidence in Goel's leadership.
The industry, through HPMA general secretary Vikas Pruthi, acknowledged his consistent demonstration of dedication, integrity, and deep understanding of regulatory affairs as qualities that have profoundly inspired the state's pharmaceutical sector.
Talking to Pharmabiz, Pruthi said the pivotal appointment arrives at a crucial juncture for Haryana's pharmaceutical industry, which is actively striving to solidify its position as a leading manufacturing hub in the North Indian region. With the state's pharmaceutical sector poised for substantial expansion, there is widespread optimism that Lalit Goel's tenure will catalyse a transformative period marked by heightened efficiency and unprecedented transparency in regulatory processes.
Talking over Telephone from Haryana, the HPMA articulated a series of key expectations from the newly appointed state drugs controller. Foremost among these is the call for a transparent and efficient licensing process, emphasizing the urgent need for streamlined approvals and renewals, underpinned by clear guidelines and a significant reduction in processing delays. This move is seen as vital for fostering a more conducive operational environment for pharmaceutical enterprises across Haryana.
Further, the association underscored the importance of consistent regulatory oversight, advocating for the fair and uniform enforcement of regulations throughout the state. This consistency is crucial for ensuring a level playing field for all industry players and for instilling greater predictability in the regulatory landscape. The HPMA also highlighted the necessity of timely guidance and support, expressing the industry's desire for prompt responses to queries, clarifications, and technical issues that arise in their day-to-day operations.
A collaborative approach was also emphasized, with the HPMA proposing regular interactions and dialogues between the SDC's office and industry bodies. Such engagement is anticipated to facilitate invaluable feedback mechanisms and ensure that policy updates are well-informed and reflective of industry realities. Moreover, the association championed the promotion of ‘ease of doing business’ through the vigorous digitization of regulatory processes and the active minimization of procedural bottlenecks, thereby simplifying and accelerating business operations.
The association’s vision extends to innovation and growth, calling for measures that actively encourage research and development, nurture pharmaceutical startups, and facilitate adherence to global quality standards. This forward-looking approach aims to not only boost innovation within Haryana but also to enhance the global competitiveness of its pharmaceutical products. Pruthi stressed the importance of training and awareness programmes for industry professionals on crucial aspects like Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory updates, alongside a swift redressal of grievances to address licensing and inspection issues promptly and effectively.
The general secretary of the HPMA has reiterated the association's unwavering commitment to fostering continued cooperation and seeking guidance under Lalit Goel's leadership. “The pharmaceutical industry in Haryana collectively looks forward to the positive strides and transformative advancements that his leadership is expected to bring, solidifying the state's standing as a vibrant and responsible pharmaceutical ecosystem’ he added.
Sharad Mehrotra, president of the Gurugram Chemists and Druggists Association (GCDA) in Haryana, praised Lalit Goel, describing him as a disciplined, integrous, and humble individual who consistently seeks to learn. Mehrotra emphasized Goel's exceptional and straightforward approach to understanding and explaining subjects, noting that he prefers to encourage others to update their practices rather than resort to punitive measures. He conveyed his expectation that Goel's tenure would mark a highly productive period for all pharma traders, enabling them to enhance their knowledge and strengthen their commitment to work ethics, asserting that Goel is a truly intelligent officer at Haryana FDA.
