Professor Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, a highly respected name in pharmaceutical sciences, has been unanimously selected by the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), the nation's apex professional body, for its highest honour, the ‘IPA Eminent Pharmacist Award’ for the year 2025. This distinctive award recognizes his noteworthy and extensive contributions to the profession of pharmacy as an academician and researcher across the globe. The honour, which includes a Citation, a Memento, a Shawl, and a token Cheque, will be formally presented during the Inaugural Ceremony of the 74th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) to be held in Bengaluru in Karnataka on December 19, 2025. The IPC is known as the biggest national conclave for pharmaceutical professionals. The award specifically honours Prof. Bhoop's pioneering work in Quality by Design (QbD)-enabled nanomedicine development, a field where he is internationally acclaimed. His dedication to advancing pharmaceutical knowledge is reflected in his prolific research output, which includes over 450 publications, 16 books, and 10 patents (with four already granted). Crucially, his research has transitioned from the lab to practical application, with the successful technology transfer of three nanotech-based drug delivery products to the pharmaceutical industry, underscoring the commercial and therapeutic viability of his innovations. Beyond his groundbreaking research, Prof. Bhoop has served Panjab University (PU) in Chandigarh, in numerous pivotal administrative roles. He is currently an Honorary Professor at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS). His past leadership positions include Chairman of UIPS (2014-17), Dean of the Faculty of Pharm. Sciences (2012-14), and Dean of Alumni Relations (2007-11). Furthermore, he was instrumental as the Founder-Coordinator of the prestigious National UGC Centre for Excellence in Nano Biomedical Applications (2011-2019) and the Coordinator of the UGC Centre of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2011-18). Prof. Bhoop has also demonstrated unparalleled dedication to mentorship and industry training. He has supervised over 110 researchers, including 35 Ph.D. scholars and 10 post-doctoral fellows, shaping the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists. His expertise is globally sought after, he has delivered nearly 400 invited lectures and conducted onsite hands-on workshops across India and abroad, personally training thousands of industrial scientists through specialized programs on QbD-enabled formulation and analytical development. This extensive engagement highlights his commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry. The high scientific impact of his work is independently affirmed by his consistent inclusion in Stanford University’s Global Top 2 Percent Scientists List from 2019 to 2025, for both career-long and single-year performance. This recognition places him among the elite global contributors to pharmaceutical sciences. Financially, his projects have attracted significant support, securing research funding exceeding Rs. 7.30 crore from various government and industry sources, demonstrating the trust and value placed in his scientific agenda. Prof. Bhoop's exemplary career is marked by a long list of national and international distinctions.
