Japan being a highly regulated and tough market to venture into for Indian exports, Department of Commerce, Government of India, along with Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) are planning to utilise the upcoming ‘3rd India-Japan Medical Products Regulatory Symposium-2018’ platform to explore more export opportunities for Indian pharmaceuticals and related products and services into the Japanese markets.

The regulatory symposium which is organised by Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), ministry of health & family welfare, government of India in association with ministry of health & labour welfare, government of Japan and PMDA (Pharmaceuticals and Medical Device Agency), will be held in New Delhi from August 27-28,  2018.

The two-day event is expected to focus on improving the level of regulatory systems in both countries as well as to facilitate the regulatory compliance by industries and for discussing the international regulatory harmonization and cooperation. Participating members are expected to deliberate to give deep insights into regulatory mechanisms of both countries for medical products and discuss on various opportunities available for building long term business relationships and networking with key stakeholders for members of both India and Japan.

“Japan is a highly regulated market and Pharmexcil along with government of India have been putting a lot of efforts to explore the potentials of exporting Indian pharmaceuticals into the Japanese markets. Particularly, Pharmexcil’s role is significant in bringing together industries and government in Japan to look towards India for opportunities in contract manufacturing, research and development and collaborations during the past few years now. In continuation to these efforts, we are further planning to explore more such opportunities in the upcoming India-Japan medical devices regulatory summit that is going to be held in New Delhi,” informed Uday Bhaskar, Director General of Pharmexcil.

In fact, in the year 2012, Pharmexcil had launched the Brand India Pharma campaign in Japan during CPhI-Tokyo and it could achieve the first breakthrough to export high quality lower priced generics into the Japanese markets. Since then India has been continuously making its efforts through Business-to-Business participations, industry collaborations and collaborations through various associations in order to understand their needs and requirements and accordingly delivering products and services to the Japanese markets.

This time again Pharmexcil wants to utilise the India-Japan Medical Products Symposium at New Delhi to promote the Indian pharmaceutical strengths to the Japanese players and explore all the available opportunities to ensure India establishes its strong foothold into the Japanese markets.

Senior government officials from both India and Japan, regulatory of both the countries in addition to prominent members from leading industry and members from start-up companies and trade operators from both India and Japan are expected to take part in large numbers during the two-day symposium. Pharmexcil, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) from India and Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA), Japan Federation of Medical Devices Association (JFMDA), Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (FPMAJ) and Kansai Pharmaceutical Association (KPIA) from Japan are supporting this event. About 200 members from India and Japan are expected to participate in the two-day symposium.
