In a significant development aimed at bolstering India's healthcare research capabilities, the Mumbai-based National Institute for Research in Reproductive and Child Health (NIRRCH) is set to conduct an intensive training course focusing on human disease models.
Sponsored by the Department of Health Research (DHR), under the ministry of health & family welfare (MoHFW), the initiative underscores a concerted effort to equip medical professionals, researchers, and scientists with advanced tools and techniques to tackle pressing health challenges.
The comprehensive 4-week training curriculum will delve into various aspects of human disease modelling, encompassing essential topics such as 2D and 3D cell cultures, iPSCs generation, Organ-on-Chip technology, and diverse animal models including xenograft, syngeneic, and transgenic mice models.
The forthcoming training program, scheduled to run from May 06 to May 31, 2024, is tailored to empower faculty members from medical colleges, researchers from various institutes, and mid-career scientists from universities across India. Aimed at fostering a deep understanding of modern technologies in healthcare research, the course will cover a diverse array of topics pertinent to human disease modelling.
Participants will be introduced to computational tools for disease-network analysis, as well as advanced molecular techniques including real-time PCR, droplet digital PCR, Next Generation Sequencing, Pyrosequencer, Flow Cytometry, and High Content Screening. The course structure will comprise a blend of lectures, practical demonstrations, hands-on experiments, group activities, and assignments, ensuring a holistic learning experience conducive to skill development and knowledge acquisition.
As India continues to make strides in healthcare research and innovation, initiatives such as the upcoming training course on human disease models spearheaded by NIRRCH serve as crucial platforms for capacity building and knowledge exchange. By equipping professionals with cutting-edge tools and methodologies, the endeavor holds promise in catalyzing breakthroughs in understanding, diagnosing, and treating a myriad of health conditions, ultimately contributing to the advancement of public health and wellbeing nationwide.
The training course is open to faculty members of medical colleges, research institutes, Model Rural Health Research Units (MRHRUs), and universities, with individuals possessing MBBS, M Pharm, MD, or PhD degrees encouraged to apply. Notably, applicants from underserved regions such as the North-East, semi-urban, or rural areas are particularly encouraged to participate, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity in healthcare research. Interested candidates are required to submit their applications online via the designated portal, with the application window open from February 01 to March 8, 2024.
