According to Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, the production of Ayush medicines and supplements witnessed phenomenal growth, surging from over $3 billion in 2014 to $18 billion in 2020. By the end of 2023, the sector is projected to reach an impressive $24 billion. This remarkable trajectory speaks volumes about the global acceptance and trust in traditional Indian wellness practices.

Rising global demand: As individuals seek natural alternatives to conventional medicine, the demand for Ayush products has surged in India and globally. According to the Global Wellness Institute, the global wellness industry is valued at over $4.5 trillion, with Ayurveda playing a significant role. In India, IMARC reports that the Ayurvedic products market reached Rs. 626 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach Rs. 1,824 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 19.3 per cent from 2023 to 2028.
Government initiatives: The Indian government's unwavering support and promotion of Ayush practices have propelled the sector's growth. The government recognizes Ayurveda and other Ayush practices as effective remedies with minimal side effects. The Ayush Ministry introduced the IC Scheme to assist Indian Ayush manufacturers and service providers. It aims to boost Ayush exports, promote and develop the Ayush system worldwide, engage stakeholders, enhance international market development, establish Ayush Academic Chairs in abroad, and organize training workshops for global awareness.
Collaboratively, the Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry established the Ayush Export Promotion Council for Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, Unani medicines, and Ayush services.
Research and modernization: The Ayush sector has witnessed increased investment in research and development, bridging the gap between traditional knowledge and modern science. This approach has led to the development of standardized products that meet international quality standards.
International collaboration: The Ayush sector is increasingly collaborating with international organizations and governments to expand its reach and export Ayush products. The country is actively broadening the horizons of its traditional medicine systems through bilateral collaborations with five countries such as Nepal, Cuba, Malaysia, Venezuela, and Qatar. This initiative aims to exchange best practices and leverage the advancements made within the field of traditional medicine in India. The Ministry has also inked 40 MoUs with international institutions for collaborative research and academic cooperation. Additionally, 15 MoUs have been established with foreign institutes to establish Ayush Academic Chairs. Furthermore, the Ministry has backed the establishment of 39 Ayush Information Cells in 35 countries.
Consumer awareness: As more people become health-conscious, there is a growing awareness of the benefits of herbal and natural remedies. This change in consumer mindset has driven the demand for Ayush products.
