In a significant development aimed at enhancing the quality and standards of healthcare in Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy) hospitals, the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) has announced a public notice inviting feedback on existing accreditation standards.

This initiative marks a pivotal step towards the development of the 1st edition of Integrated Accreditation Standards for Ayush Hospitals, aligning with ISQua EEA Guidelines.

Dr. Atul Mohan Kochhar, CEO of NABH, highlighted the importance of stakeholder engagement in this process, stating, "The integration of accreditation standards for Ayush Hospitals is a crucial step towards ensuring quality healthcare services across diverse healthcare systems. We urge all stakeholders to provide their valuable feedback to enrich the development of these standards."

The current accreditation standards for Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy, Siddha, and Unani Hospitals, outlined in the 2nd edition for Ayurveda Hospitals (2016), Homoeopathy Hospitals (2016), Yoga & Naturopathy Hospitals (2017), and the 1st edition for Siddha Hospitals (2009) and Unani Hospitals (2009), are subject to review and enhancement.

Stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, practitioners, institutions, and the general public, are encouraged to participate in the feedback process. Dr. Kochhar emphasized, "The insights and suggestions provided by stakeholders will play a vital role in shaping the future of accreditation standards for Ayush Hospitals, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of the healthcare sector."

Feedback can be submitted through the designated feedback form available on the NABH website or by scanning the provided QR code. The deadline for feedback submission is April 15, 2024.

“The move to integrate accreditation standards for Ayush Hospitals reflects NABH's commitment to fostering excellence in healthcare delivery across diverse healthcare systems. By soliciting feedback from stakeholders, NABH aims to develop comprehensive and integrated standards that uphold the highest levels of quality and patient care in Ayush Hospitals. As healthcare systems continue to evolve, initiatives such as this underscore the importance of collaboration and continuous improvement in ensuring accessible, safe, and high-quality healthcare services for all,” Dr. Kochhar said.

ISQua EEA has developed the Guidelines and Standards for the Standards Recognition Programme to facilitate the assessment of health and social care standards that focus on a specific clinical service or aspect of care. These could include standards for infection prevention and control, stroke services or clinical risk management.
