The healthcare sector has witnessed a profound transformation, shifting from hospital-centric systems to patient-centric care, and evolving from acute care to comprehensive, holistic healthcare ecosystems, he stated.
Healthcare supply chain has undergone an evolution. Online platforms like Apollo, 1mg, and Practo have emerged as aggregators, offering a one-stop solution for drugs, diagnostics, and insurance services. Smaller specialty clinics and primary care centres are complementing large hospital systems. Initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission have further streamlined the ecosystem by standardizing and digitizing health records.
Looking ahead, India stands at a critical juncture. With its vast and diverse healthcare data, India has the potential to move beyond relying solely on international benchmarks. By harnessing localized, evidence-based insights, India can unlock the full potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning to drive innovations. As we approach 2025, the trajectory of health tech in India will be shaped by the seamless integration of these advancements, ensuring a future where patient-focused care is both a reality and a priority. While the US health tech sector continues to achieve advancements, India faces challenges in adopting and implementing similar innovations. These challenges stem from India’s healthcare needs to balance affordability, accessibility, and technological sophistication, he noted.
One foremost challenge is the cost of innovation. Another is the lack of collaboration between insurance and healthcare providers. Interoperability also remains a pressing issue. While India has established a robust legal framework for data privacy and consent, challenges persist in awareness, understanding, and consistent implementation, said Singh.
Health tech sector in 2024 is marked by several transformative milestones that have shaped its trajectory. One was the mass adoption of telehealth, which redefined the patient-care paradigm, emphasizing convenience and remote connectivity. The year also saw the establishment of government-supported registries and impactful private sector initiatives. There was significant progress in laying the groundwork for artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. While the full impact of AI is still unfolding, the strong frameworks established in 2024 represent a pivotal foundation for ethical and impactful AI integration. These developments will help rapid digitization, seamless data integration, and AI adoption in a compliant and scalable manner.
