The officials of the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) in Telangana, acting on credible information regarding the illegal stocking and sale of medicines, raided ‘Helping Hand Society De-Addiction Treatment Cum Rehabilitation Center’ at Hanumakonda in Warangal District and seized medicines stocked without authorisation. The inspectors said the premises were found to be operating illegally without a valid drug license. During the raid, DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantities of medicines for sale. Forty varieties of medicines including antibiotics, steroids, antihypertensives, antidiabetic drugs etc are found stocked for sale at the premises. They seized stocks worth a total of Rs. 4.01 lakhs from the possession of a person called Pottabathula Ramu who is the director of the ‘Helping Hand Society De-Addiction Treatment cum Rehabilitation Center’. J Kiran Kumar, drugs inspector at Hanumakonda, M Aravind Kumar, drugs inspector at Warangal and A Balakrishna, drugs inspector at Jangaon were among the officers who carried out the raid. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation will be carried out and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders. The DCA administrative head, VB Kamalasan Reddy said wholesalers/dealers who supply medicines to such unlicensed entities, which are stocking and selling drugs without a drug license, are also punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, and stringent action will be taken against such dealers. The traders should mandatorily ensure that the recipient entities hold a valid drug license before supplying medicines to them. The DCA, Telangana, issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking drugs for sale without a drug license is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for up to five years, he said. In another incident, the drug control sleuths raided the premises of an Electro-Homeo Practitioner, Burla Gopal at Sri Sai Electrohomeo and Ayurvedic Clinic at Medak Town, in Medak District. During the raid, DCA officials detected two varieties of tablets in the clinic, which included 650 loose white-coloured circular tablets (engraved with "SVZ") stored in a transparent bottle with a silver-coloured cap, and 840 loose pink-coloured circular tablets stored in another transparent bottle with a silver-coloured cap. The tablets are purported to contain drugs such as steroids, NSAIDs, etc, the office of the DCA informed. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis and seized the stocks.
