The third executive meeting of the Confederation of Indian Pharmaceutical Industries (CIPI) will be held at Hotel Ramada Plaza in Guindy in Chennai on February 8, Saturday. The chairman of the CIPI, Ram Kumar Jain said the executive committee meeting of the confederation will discuss the latest issues faced by the pharma industries in India, mainly the risk-based inspections and implementation of Schedule M. Besides, the achievements of the association in the last four years will be a subject of deliberation for the members, and the future planning is also on the agenda. He said EC members from eight associations from north India will attend the meeting in addition to members from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala. It is learnt that the committee will decide on submitting a proposal to the committee on ‘Reforms in Pricing Framework for Drugs and Medical Devices’. A decision will be taken on whether CIPI will partner with FOPE in executing the PULSE initiative. Further, the confederation will also ponder over enhancing its membership by bringing together all other associations who were previously associating with it. The confederation will have further discussion on submitting a proposal to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for establishing a separate innovation/start-up guidance cell under the national drug regulator. A suggestion to be made to the DCGI that financial support for encouraging research and innovations in pharmaceutical companies will be deliberated on by the members in the meeting. M Varadarajan, president of the Tamil Nadu Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (TN PMA) said the programme is hosted by the association, and 15 EC members have confirmed their presence. He said the programme will start at 3 pm, and all members of TN PMA will attend it.
