In order to support the students of pharmacy for a transition from educational institutions to the corporate world, the Tamil Nadu chapter of the Association of Pharmacy Teachers of India (TN APTI) will organise a one-day seminar at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University in Perambalur district on February 22, 2025.
The conferences and paper presentations at the seminar will be accredited by The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.
The president of the TN APTI, Dr. V Sankar said the seminar is organised to prepare students of the B Pharm and M Pharm for their future careers in industry, as chances in hospitals have become less, but they are increasing in industries. He said to equip the students for the requirements of the industry, the teachers’ body has decided to organise many programmes like this in various parts of the state. The association will coordinate with the drug manufacturers association (TN IDMA) to hold seminars and open opportunities for the students for training and career purposes, said Dr. Sankar. According to him, this national scientific seminar will facilitate creating essential career skills among the students to enhance the employability of the pharmacy graduates. “The TN IDMA has reached a tie-up with the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University for a collaboration for teaching institutions with industries. As part of it, the pharmacy teachers’ association is associating with the drug manufacturers’ association for industrial training for the students of B Pharm and M Pharm courses. The national conference of Saturday will have representatives from all colleges in the state. So far, we have got the registrations from 2000 students and 500 teachers”, Dr. Sankar added. On Saturday morning at 9 am, the seminar will be inaugurated by the president of the Tamil Nadu state pharmacy council, J Jayaseelan. Later, he will deliver a talk on the topic, "Overview of Pharmaceutical Industries and Job opportunities of Pharmacy Graduates”. The Tamil Nadu motivational speaker, Sivakumar Bellan will speak in a special session on the topic, ‘21st century skills for pharmacists to face future healthcare challenges’, in the afternoon. Focusing on the scope of Pharm D students, the general manager of the Accenture Solutions Pvt Ltd, Sivaraman Jayaprakash, will speak on ‘Gateway to Global Pharma Careers – Expectations from Pharmacovigilance and Medical Writing Companies.” In the evening the state awards instituted by TN APTI will be distributed to the teachers and students. Award will also be given for the best paper presentation. This is the third national conference conducted by the association.
