Karnataka govt gives a booster dose to hospital infrastructure by investing Rs. 1,182 crore

The Karnataka government, with an objective of developing health infrastructure, is investing Rs. 1,182 crore across its 31 districts for modern hospital infrastructure. These will include Critical Care Blocks of 50-bed capacity in districts and a 100-beded facility in Bengaluru to boost emergency medicine.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the state is introducing a pioneering policy focused on preventing and treating burn injuries among women.
 
In addition to this, with a focus on maternal health, the state government’s health and family welfare department is setting up 50-bedded Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) in Athani, Hunagunda and Mudhol in north Karnataka.
 
To reduce preventable maternal mortality rate to zero, the department has developed a mission-mode programme to reduce preventable maternal mortality in the State to minimum. Chief minister Siddaramaiah announced during the state budget here that a Rs. 320 crore is allocated to strengthen obstetric services equipping hospitals with all necessary medical devices to treat and prevent severe postpartum haemorrhage by implementing novel digital technology.
 
In a bid to prevent anaemia among pregnant women nutrition kits, financial incentives and Vatsalya Kits for mothers will be distributed in backward districts. Mother & child specialist will be deputed in every taluka hospital through re-deployment of posts. Maternal mortality cases will be subject to the audit of the State Technical Expert Committee and its recommendations will be submitted to the State Empowered Committee, he said.
 
Under Shravana Sanjeevini Programme, for early diagnosis and treatment of hearing impairment among children, Rs.12 crore is provided for cochlear implant surgery and for the maintenance, repair and replacement of spare parts of cochlear implants.
 
Under AshaKiran National Blindness Prevention Programme, eye-examination has been conducted for 1.4 crore people and free eye-glasses have been distributed to 3.3 lakh people and 93,800 cataract surgeries have been conducted.
 
Under Karnataka Brain Health Initiative (KaBHI), 2.61 lakh check-up were conducted in collaboration with NIMHANS and treatment was provided to 32,630 neurological patients. Rs. 20 crore has been allocated to extend this programme to all health centres. Also, for the treatment of mentally ill patients Wellness Centres will be set up in all district level hospitals in partnership with non-government organisations.
 
This fiscal, the government will set up an advanced 200 bedded hospital at a cost of Rs.150 crore in Bengaluru. Besides, primary health centres (PHCs) in taluks will be upgraded to community health centres (CHCs). District hospital in Davangere and Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru will be renovated at a cost of Rs. 650 crore. A 200-bedded hospital will be established at Molakalmuru in Chitradurga district and a 400-bedded hospital will be established at Virajapete in Kodagu district. District and Taluk hospitals which require extensive repairs will be renovated at a cost of Rs. 183 crore in a phased manner, said chief minister Siddaramaiah.
