The State of Gujarat is set to take centre-stage in the global health dialogue as it prepares to present its cutting-edge pharmaceutical and healthcare ecosystem to a high-profile international delegation visiting Ahmedabad comprising representatives from 41 countries on June 18, 2025.
The delegation is part of the 2nd Policymakers’ Forum, which will be held from June 16 to 19, 2025, in New Delhi hosted by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ghaziabad, in collaboration with the ministry of health & family welfare (MoHFW) and the ministry of external affairs (MEA). The event is also being actively supported by the Gujarat Food & Drug Control Administration (FDCA).
The forum aims to foster global dialogue on regulatory harmonization, healthcare innovation, public health policy, and pharmaceutical development, providing a strategic platform for India to highlight its healthcare achievements and capabilities to a global audience.
As part of the forum’s itinerary, delegates will travel to Ahmedabad, where they will visit two state-of-the-art Research & Development centres, showcasing Gujarat’s role as a national and global pharmaceutical hub. These visits are designed to offer a first-hand look at the state’s infrastructure, technological innovation, and capacity for advanced pharmaceutical research, drug development, and medical technology.
Speaking about the initiative, Dr H G Koshia, Commissioner of the Gujarat FDCA, stated that the visits aim to underscore Gujarat’s scientific capabilities, robust regulatory systems, and its leadership in pharmaceutical exports and life sciences innovation.
The Government of Gujarat is also hosting a networking session for the visiting dignitaries at the prestigious UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre in Ahmedabad. This event is intended to foster informal interactions and deepen bilateral and multilateral relations in healthcare and regulatory collaboration.
The pivotal role of the Government of Gujarat and its health authorities was formally acknowledged by Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, secretary-cum-scientific director of IPC and also the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). He extended his gratitude to the Gujarat health & family welfare department and Gujarat FDCA for their proactive support in making Gujarat’s participation a vital component of the international forum.
On June 16, 2025, inauguration of the 2nd Policymakers’ Forum will happen followed by Technical Sessions at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi. Dr. Raghuvanshi will deliver the welcome address. Punya Salila Srivastava, secretary, ministry of health & family welfare, will offer a policy perspective on India's public health landscape.
A major highlight will be the keynote address by the Anupriya Patel, minister of state for health & family welfare and chemicals & fertilizers, which includes the official release of the IPC’s 15-Year Journey Book, a retrospective on India’s advancements in pharmacopoeial science and standards development.
Notable sessions include presentation on IPC by Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, DCGI, presentation on Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) by Dr. Ranga Chandrasekhar, Joint Drug Controller (India), presentation on Janaushadhi Scheme by Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) by Ravi Dadhich, CEO Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), presentation on Jaipur Foot Initiative by Satish Mehta from Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata samiti (BMVSS) and presentation on Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission from National Health Authority (NHA).
The sessions are expected to stimulate cross-border dialogue on best practices in drug regulation, affordable healthcare access, digital health ecosystems, and public-private partnerships. The Policymakers’ Forum will act as a platform in India’s global health diplomacy, aiming to strengthen international partnerships through shared knowledge, transparency in regulatory practices, and a unified approach to healthcare challenges.
