Pharmacy is listed among the 3rd most promising careers, said Dr Umesh S, Additional Drugs Controller and Licensing Authority, Karnataka Food & Drug Administration.

Quoting a report, Dr Umesh said, “Pharmaceuticals ranks among the top three hottest job sectors across nine industries in the country. This prominence is driven by the pharmaceutical industry's dynamic nature as it not only plays a critical role in advancing healthcare but also fuels innovation, job creation, and economic growth on a global scale.”

Speaking at the 3rd edition of the Krupanidhi College of Pharmacy Job Fair and Career Expo recently, Dr. Umesh emphasized that such events serve as vital platforms for young pharmacy graduates and professionals to connect directly with leading companies, explore diverse career opportunities, and gain insight into the skills required for future success in the industry.

For students and job seekers, this Job Fair is more than just a series of interviews. It is an opportunity to explore diverse career pathways in research & development (R&D), manufacturing, quality assurance, clinical research, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, and several emerging fields. For companies, it offers direct access to a dynamic pool of skilled and motivated talent, ready to contribute to India’s ongoing journey as the ‘Pharmacy of the World’, noted Dr Umesh.

This current scenario is largely driven by the unprecedented pace of advancements in science and technology, which continue to reshape industries like pharmaceuticals and create new opportunities, he said.

“Students, we are living in the era of Artificial Intelligence. While your academic performance is important, building meaningful contacts and professional connections is equally essential. Focus on your studies, but also stay informed about global developments and technological trends. Adapt accordingly, and shape your career with foresight and purpose,” he pointed out.

Every institution, whether governmental, private, or educational achieves success through a clear vision and mission. In the same way, your personal success story will be shaped by the clarity of your own vision and the commitment to your mission, Dr Umesh told while addressing the gathering of the qualified pharmacy student pool.

“Whether a student pursues Pharm D, M Pharm, B Pharm or D Pharma, degrees only empower them. A graduate in pharmacy is well-equipped to explore diverse streams and roles across the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. In fact, some of the most successful pharmaceutical companies in India—like Micro Labs, Biocon, Dr. Reddy’s, and Sun Pharma—are led by professionals who don’t necessarily hold pharmacy degrees. This highlights the importance of vision, adaptability, and leadership, stated Dr Umesh.

The field of pharmacy is vast, dynamic, and rapidly expanding. Students today have numerous opportunities in areas including clinical pharmacist, medical writer, industry and academia. Many states have included Pharm D for post of Drugs Inspectors in the Cadre and  Recruitment Rules. Besides, there is huge demand for clinical pharmacists in the US, Australia and Canada.

The Indian pharmaceutical market is expected to grow to US$ 130 billion by 2030. This will give the demand for skilled pharmacy professionals. By 2028 India would be the 3rd largest economy. Indian Medical device market is expected to grow. The Global Capability Centres that have been established in India will create a huge demand for candidates in regulatory affairs, pharmacovigilance, research and hospitals and teaching, said Dr Umesh.
