The Modern Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) in Indore in Madhya Pradesh, under the guidance of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), successfully concluded its celebration of National cGMP Day yesterday, October 10, 2025.

The high-profile event focused on the essential integration of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) into both academic curriculum and pharmaceutical industry operations. The celebration brought together over 400 students from the BPharm, DPharm, and MPharm programmes, along with faculty members, creating a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange and professional development.

The programme commenced with a welcome address from the Institute's Head, Dr. Sapna Malviya, who underscored the paramount importance of cGMP in assuring the identity, strength, quality, purity, and stability of all drug products. Dr. Malviya stressed that cGMP is a continuous learning process, stating, "Every failure teaches a batch of wisdom, after every recall, cGMP becomes more than a regulation, it becomes a realization."

She provided a comprehensive overview of pharmaceutical quality management, detailing concepts such as Instrument Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), Performance Qualification (PQ), Method and Process Validation, Calibration, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), Data Integrity, CAPA, and Risk Assessment.

The keynote address was delivered by Vinay Verma, founder & president of Quality Idol Consultancy and former president of Corporate Quality at Symbiotech Pharmalab. Verma clarified that cGMP is not just a regulatory mandate but a set of globally approved guidelines established under the International Council for Harmonisation (ICH). He emphasized that quality is the shared responsibility of every individual within the pharmaceutical framework. Verma took the audience through advanced quality systems, highlighting the critical role of Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Risk-Based Approach, Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), Continuous Process Verification (CPV), and the Validation Lifecycle.

Verma further enriched the discussion by focusing on the crucial aspects of GMP audit readiness, batch record review, data integrity, and the ongoing digitization of quality processes. He also integrated an essential ethical component, discussing pharmacy ethics and ethical decision-making in manufacturing and research. A significant portion of his talk was dedicated to the principles of Quality by Design (QbD), illustrating how its systematic application ensures consistent product quality, safety, and efficacy through optimized process control.

Institute Chairman Dr. Anil Kharia appreciated the timely initiative, noting its importance in successfully bridging the gap between academia and industry requirements. Dr.Kharia highlighted that such immersive programs are vital for fostering a professional culture rooted in continuous learning and strict adherence to cGMP standards. He stressed that participation enhances students' technical competence in quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC), proficiency in validation protocols, robust documentation practices, and a deeper understanding of QbD frameworks, which are all critical for regulatory compliance and professional excellence.

In addition to the insightful lectures, the event featured an engaging quiz competition that rigorously tested the students' grasp of pharmaceutical concepts. Complementing the theoretical knowledge, hands-on training sessions were organized to provide practical exposure to analytical instrumentation and essential laboratory techniques, thereby substantially boosting the technical proficiency of the future pharmacists.

The entire event was meticulously coordinated by Ankur Joshi (Associate Professor), Dr. Anamika Singh (Associate Professor), and Purva Khemani (Assistant Professor), and moderated seamlessly by Deepesh Pawar, a BPharm III Year student. The resounding success of National cGMP Day at MIPS in Indore, reaffirms the institute’s commitment to producing industry-ready professionals dedicated to upholding the highest standards of pharmaceutical quality and patient safety, said the head of the Institute.
