The Central Council for Research in Ayurveda Sciences – Central Ayurvedic Research Institute, Bengaluru under the Union Ministry of Ayush in collaboration with IISc (Indian Institute of Science) and NIMHANS has accelerated the pace of research to combat obesity and metabolic syndrome.
The research will primarily drive management of Type 2 diabetes, obesity and dyslipidaemia or high cholesterol. It will drive all studies adopting nanotechnology and molecular biology. All this came about at the ongoing two-day Ministry of Ayush International Conference on Ayurveda and Integrative Approaches to Obesity & Metabolic Syndrome being held on December 1 and 2, 2025 at IISc, Bengaluru.
The key intent of the researchers is to advancing a breakthrough evidence-based integrative framework aimed at preventing and managing obesity and metabolic syndrome. By combining classical Ayurvedic principles with contemporary scientific validation, the initiative focuses on holistic interventions, including dietary regimens, lifestyle modifications, therapeutic procedures, and standardized herbal formulations to provide safer, more sustainable solutions for these rapidly rising health burdens.
To this end, the conference platform has brought together experts in Ayurveda, conventional medicine and other scientific fields from India and abroad. It is aligning with policy of the central government for promotion of evidence based integrative health approaches.
The A V Rama Rao Auditorium at the IISc is a witness to researchers scout for possible collaborations and emphasize the need to generate high-quality clinical evidence to support integrative care models that are both accessible and patient-centric. Ongoing research initiatives include controlled clinical trials, biomarker-based evaluations, and systematic documentation of therapeutic responses to ensure scientific rigor. By strengthening the bridge between traditional knowledge and modern healthcare practices, CCRAS and CARI envisage to establish and replicable models of prevention and management that can be scaled nationally, ultimately contributing to improved metabolic health outcomes across diverse populations.
Dr. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, Central Council of Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) told Pharmabiz that in an age where metabolic diseases are rising at an alarming pace, impacting public health, productivity, and quality of life, Ayurveda offers a holistic perspective.
This conference aims to bridge traditional ayurvedic knowledge with contemporary biomedical insights, fostering a dialogue that is evidence-based, innovative, and globally relevant. Our discussions, workshops, and scientific exchanges in this conference will contribute to new frameworks of integrative care, translational research, and global health policy, he added.
The symposium is designed to focus on Translational Science and Integrative Medicine Approaches to Management of type 2 diabetes, obesity and dyslipidemia. A workshop on Nanotechnology & Molecular Biology at TCS Smart-X Hub IDR Building is highlighting emerging scientific tools that can transform the understanding and management of metabolic health disorders.
Further, researchers said that it is giving an understanding on nanotechnology-based drug-delivery systems, molecular markers associated with metabolic dysfunction, and advanced diagnostic approaches for early detection of obesity-related complications.
We are currently discussing on how nano-formulations, genomic insights, and molecular pathway analysis can support the development of more targeted, safer, and effective therapeutic strategies. Also this workshop is seen to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, bridging modern scientific advancements with holistic health frameworks to address the growing global burden of obesity and metabolic syndrome, said Dr. B N Gangadhar, Distinguished Ayush Chair, former director, NIMHANS and chairman National Medical Council.
