The Thiruvallur District Chemists and Druggists Association has submitted a formal grievance to the former chief minister and general secretary of the AIADMK, Edappadi K Palaniswami, detailing extensive allegations of financial misconduct against former secretary of the Tamil Nadu CDA, K K Selvam. The representation accuses Selvam of swindling significant funds from the Tamil Nadu Chemists and Druggists Association (TNCDA) and the TNCDE Trust. These allegations have already led to his permanent dismissal from both organizations after an internal investigation. The complaint highlights that K K Selvam is a close relative of a former state minister. The Thiruvallur district CDA alleges that Selvam leveraged his influential political connection to maintain a 14-year grip on the association and an affiliated pharmacy college. During this time, he is accused of intimidating members and pharmaceutical companies by claiming he would soon ascend to a high political position. The district association alleges in their complaint letter that Selvam used his influence to engage in the illicit collection of several crores of rupees from various pharmacy colleges in exchange for granting unauthorized permissions. This matter, involving a massive conspiracy to secure administrative favours, is currently under judicial scrutiny. Furthermore, the district CDA highlights that Selvam faces criminal charges for real estate fraud, with an FIR already registered by the Trichy police. This fraudulent transaction was reportedly funded through contributions gathered from all district associations across the state. Beyond financial crimes, the document describes a period of "Administrative Tyranny" where Selvam allegedly manipulated bylaws to extend his leadership far beyond the two-term limit. This 14-year tenure reportedly caused deep divisions within major district associations, including Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore. The traders’ body asserts that Selvam systematically rejected majority-backed leadership in these hubs in favour of hand-picked loyalists to maintain his control. In closing, the association warns that Selvam is currently using his political influence as a shield to escape legal prosecution ahead of the 2026 elections. The pharmaceutical traders in Thiruvallur have requested a thorough investigation and swift disciplinary action to protect the integrity of the party and the interests of the trading community.
