In a major boost to the pharmaceutical sector of the southern region, the Chennai Trade Centre at Nandambakkam turned into a nucleus of industry breakthrough as Pharmac South 2026 officially opened its doors this morning.

The prestigious two-day trade exhibition and parallel conference is being jointly organized by the Tamil Nadu state board of the Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA), alongside Mumbai-based Orbit Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd. The mega event has brought together pharma manufacturers, raw material suppliers, industry leaders, machinery operators, laboratory instruments and medical equipment manufacturers, pharmaceutical marketers, and regulatory officers from across south India under one roof to catalyze manufacturing excellence.

The exhibition floor was formally inaugurated by the special guest, Dr. Darez Ahamed, Principal secretary to the Government, health and family welfare department, Tamil Nadu. This was seamlessly followed by the official commencement of the national conference by the chief guest, Dr. Rajeev Singh Raghuvanshi, Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), New Delhi. Both dignitaries highly commended the southern pharma industry's robust growth, its unwavering commitment to regulatory compliance and quality, and its massive contributions to both the domestic healthcare sector and global pharmaceutical needs, while explicitly praising the vital role played by pharma MSMEs across South India.

The main trade pavilion is humming with corporate activity, showcasing over 125 meticulously curated stalls from across the country representing pharmaceutical formulations, processing machinery, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), packaging technologies, and allied services. A steady stream of trade visitors, analytical scientists, trade distributors, and prospective entrepreneurs has already begun exploring the venue, interacting with exhibitors to evaluate cutting-edge technologies and cost-efficient sourcing options.

Following the ceremonial lamp lighting, J. Jayaseelan, chairman of TN IDMA welcomed the delegates and outlined the strategic goals of this year's edition. Dr S V Veeramani, Past National President of IDMA, presented a comprehensive industry overview, navigating through current global supply chain dynamics and stringent quality mandates such as the revised Schedule M. Special addresses were delivered by senior regulatory officers, including S. Gurubharathi, joint director of drugs control cum compounding authority, Tamil Nadu, and K Rajasekhar, Deputy Drugs Controller (India), CDSCO south. The morning proceedings drew to a close with a vote of thanks proposed by S Sivanandhan, Hon’ Secretary of TN IDMA.

Chronicle Pharmabiz, India's premier pharmaceutical trade journal, has marked its active presence at the expo with a dedicated stall (Stall No. L 19) in the main exhibition hall. The stall was formally inaugurated by T. Ravichandran, vice-president of IDMA, who officially commenced the publication's distribution by handing over the inaugural copy of the Chronicle Pharmabiz magazine to A. Kannan, president of Pharmaceutical Marketers and Manufacturers Association in the presence of industry leaders and visiting trade delegates.
