The Drugs Control Administration of Himachal Pradesh has unearthed a fake pharmaceutical firm operating through forged regulatory documents.
The action was following the State Drugs Controller, Dr. Manish Kapoor, constituting a special investigation team comprising Drug Inspectors Vikas Thakur, Suresh Kumar and Akshay Kumar to investigate the matter at Baddi, district Solan.
During the investigation, conducted with the active assistance of the Baddi Police, provided under the directions of Superintendent of Police, Vinod Dhiman, the team unearthed prima facie evidence indicating that forged drug manufacturing licences, GMP/GLP certificates, product permissions and pharmaceutical product labels were being used to fraudulently obtain orders and advance payments from prospective purchasers by falsely projecting the existence of a legitimate pharmaceutical manufacturing unit, said the drug regulator.
The investigation revealed that the accused, Ajay Kumar, was allegedly operating in the name of a fake firm, Dr Trustmed, and was found in possession of forged regulatory documents. Electronic devices examined during the investigation reportedly contained fabricated licences and certificates purportedly issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Himachal Pradesh.
The matter had already been reported to the Cyber Crime Police Station, Kaithal (Haryana), where an FIR has been registered against the accused. The Kaithal Police have been informed of the developments and are expected to reach Baddi to take the accused into custody for further investigation in connection with the registered case.
Dr Manish Kapoor stated that the Drugs Control Administration follows a zero-tolerance policy against individuals involved in activities that compromise the integrity of the pharmaceutical regulatory system.
“Such nefarious activities aimed at misleading purchasers through forged regulatory documents and fake pharmaceutical entities shall not be tolerated. The Drugs Control Administration is committed to protecting public health and maintaining the credibility of the pharmaceutical industry. Stringent legal action shall be taken against every person found involved in such unlawful practices.”
Dr Kapoor further stated that the proactive and timely action taken by the Drugs Control Administration has exposed an organised modus operandi involving the use of forged official documents for conducting the business of spurious drugs and cheating unsuspecting buyers. He gave credit of the operation to team of his officers who conducted the investigation.
He cautioned pharmaceutical traders, distributors and purchasers to verify the authenticity of manufacturing licences, GMP certificates and other regulatory approvals from the concerned authorities before entering into any commercial transactions.
The Drugs Control Administration has reiterated its commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement measures to prevent the misuse of regulatory documents and to safeguard the integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain in Himachal Pradesh.
