NIMHANS ‘s Department of Clinical Psychology VIPRA (Vedic Indian Psychology Research and Application) Division, in collaboration with National Academy of Psychology (NAoP) is celebrating the first Indian Psychology Day, or ‘Bhartiya Manovijnana. The instituting of this day was proposed by the VIPRA Division and endorsed by the NAoP along with the Clinical Psychology Society of India (CPSI). The VIPRA Division was established in 2019, at the Dept of Clinical Psychology, and is being led by Dr. Jyotsna Agrawal, Additional Professor, NIMHANS. It has been consistently engaged in conducting research, training and providing clinical services informed by Indian psychology. The observance of ‘Indian Psychology Day’ aims to recognise and promote the rich psychological knowledge embedded within the Indian Psychology tradition. It will help create awareness, encourage scholarly dialogue, and inspire research and practice rooted in the Indian Psychology. It will bring together senior and young scholars working in the field of Indian Psychology across the country, which may contribute meaningfully to fostering learning and dialogue, said NIMHANS in its communication. From NIMHANS, the organising committee includes Prof. Prabha Chandra, patron, Prof. Paulomi Sudhir, chairperson and Dr. Jyotsna Agrawal, organising secretary. The programme will be attended by more than 150 scholars and participants from across India to deliberate on the mental health and well-being related implications of Indian psychology. Mental health professionals and experts from various disciplines of mental health covering clinical psychology, psychiatry, psychiatric social work, nursing, counselling including trainee therapists, academicians and researchers in Indian psychology and yoga will be present in the programme.
