On the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day, Entod Pharmaceuticals has announced Project AXIOM, an India-led research programme exploring dopaminergic modulation as a next-generation therapeutic approach to progressive myopia. At its centre is AKMYX-101, an investigational topical ophthalmic candidate designed to modulate retinal dopaminergic signalling, with the aim of influencing excessive axial elongation, a key driver of progressive myopia. Project AXIOM remains an early-stage investigational programme and will undergo the necessary preclinical, safety, regulatory and clinical development before its therapeutic potential can be established. The programme will combine advanced formulation science, ocular pharmacokinetics, target-engagement studies and preclinical research, with the ambition of indigenously developing from India a potentially world-first ophthalmic therapy of its kind. Nikkhil K Masurkar, CEO & global head of innovation, Entod Pharmaceuticals, said “As India moves towards Viksit Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, our pharmaceutical industry must aspire not only to manufacture for the world, but to originate new science and therapeutic innovation for the world. Project AXIOM represents our ambition to take bold ophthalmic science conceived and developed in India towards global patients.” “India has already become the pharmacy of the world. Our next ambition should be to become an innovation laboratory for the world,” Masurkar added.
