The leakage of question papers for medical entrance test (Eamcet-2) in Telangana has forced the state government to cancel the earlier test and re-conduct the entrance test for the second time, which is scheduled to be conducted on September 11.

Earlier, the Telangana government took serious note of allegations with regard to leakage of Eamcet-2 medical question paper and ordered an enquiry by the Crime Investigation Department (CID). Upon investigation, the CID had revealed that more than 300 students in the state have scored top ranks with the help of leaked medical question papers.

Bogged down by the leakage of the Eamcet-2, the merit students protested against the government’s inability to conduct the exam fool proof and demanded to cancel the Entrance Test. “This is for the first time that we are writing the Eamcet (Engineering, Agriculture, Pharmacy and Medical Common Entrance Test) for 3 times. The first Eamcet was for engineering and pharmacy students, later again they have conducted Eamcet-2 entrance test for the admission of MBBS students in the government and private medical colleges, and now a third test-Eamect-3. This is not only creating confusion among the students, but is also becoming a huge financial burden as we have to shell out Rs.1000 as application fees every time,” said K. Surya Prakash, an intermediate biology student.

In fact, Eamcet exam is conducted to both mathematics and science students who have completed the intermediate junior college and want to pursue degree in engineering, agriculture, pharmacy and medical streams. But, this year as the central government had decided to abolish all the state level medical tests and conduct a single country wide common entrance test called NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) for admitting students in MBBS, there evolved a confusion and the state government decided to fill up seats in engineering, pharmacy and agriculture streams by conducting Eamcet-1.

However, as the Supreme Court and the central government decided to exempt Telangana state from NEET this year, the state government conducted Eamcet-2 for filling up the MBBS, BDS and BHMS seats in government and private colleges. But now with the leakage, the genuine students are forced to take second time entrance and they are facing the heat for the wrong doings of some unscrupulous elements. “We have arrested all the culprits involved into the paper leakage and the police are further investigating into the matter to find out more details. However, based on the High Court’s direction we have decided to re-conduct the Eamcet exam and provide justice to all,” informed the K. Chandrasekhar Rao, chief minister of Telangana.
