Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS) organised a workshop to highlight the roadmap for teaching and evaluation in pharmacy education at the APTICON 2016.
Dr K Ram Narayan, president, faculty development and alumni affairs, Manipal University and Dr Sudhakar Nayak conducted the programme for the benefit of pharmacy teachers who were at the campus for the 21st annual convention of the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI). Dr. KLK Paranjothy, Emeritus Professor, Aditya Bangalore Institute of Pharmacy Education and Research, Bengaluru and director, Bangalore Allergy Centre, Bengaluru, Karnataka chaired the session.
Quality teaching is a must for any educational institution, said Dr Narayan who stressed on effective teacher-student knowledge transfer.
A symposium on ‘Pharmaceutical Research Facilitation’ was inaugurated by Dr. G.K. Prabhu, director, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal University. He spoke about interdisciplinary research and its importance in health sciences. The symposium was chaired by Dr. N. Gopalan Kutty, Professor (Retd.), MCOPS and Dr. M. K. Unnikrishnan, Professor, MCOPS. The participants received excellent guidance and knowledge regarding the various regulatory requirements and databases as an aid in research. Dr. A. Ramkishan, deputy drugs controller, Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), government of India, New Delhi effectively conveyed the message of facilitating research. Sherin Mary Samji, ACS International India spoke on ‘Applications of SciFinder in pharmaceutical research’. Alok Poundrik, account manager, academic and government intellectual property and science, Thomson and Reuters spoke on the “Role of Web of Sciences in promoting research’.
