UNFPA and IIHMR University, Jaipur jointly organised an International Training Program on Family Planning and Reproductive Health Commodity Security. The event will be held till October 21, 2016 at the campus of IIHMR, Jaipur.
The objective of the training programme was to have a better understanding of programme management, monitoring and evaluation skills to manage Family Planning and Reproductive Health Commodity Security. The agenda is also to develop competences in effective advocacy, networking and strategic thinking, said Prof. P R Sodani, dean-training, IIHMR University.
The programme is attended by 25 participants from over seven countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste. The participants included senior professionals working with the ministry of health and UNFPA.
Prof. Vivek Bhandari, president of IIHMR University, in his inaugural address said that efforts were on to improve the quality of life of the people globally. He further highlighted that IIHMR with its base in knowledge management, would work closely with the UNFPA for improving Family Planning and Reproductive Health Commodity Security.
“This is the only programme globally that was so comprehensive and integrated, in the context of rights-based family planning approach. There is a great need for skill building among professionals working with governmental and non-governmental organizations, towards managing family planning and reproductive health programme in the context of rights of the women”, said Dr. Annette Sachs Robertson, country representative, UNFPA Indonesia in her keynote address.
Dr Vinit Sharma, regional technical adviser – RH & RHCS, UNFPA Asia Pacific Regional Office, Bangkok, said that other important aspects included in the course were quality of care, procurement, storage/warehousing, distribution, inventory control and analysis, logistics management, monitoring and evaluation, advocacy and networking, strategy.
