Telangana state has witnessed a sharp rise in dengue deaths in Khammam and Adilabad districts in recent  months. During the last month alone at least 20 people from Bonakal mandal in Khammam district have succumbed to dengue fever and with more number of patients approaching with this vector borne disease, the Medical Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. C. Laxma Reddy, has directed the concerned authorities to immediately form special teams of doctors and venture into the rural tribal areas to fight dengue and save the poor tribal population in the state.

“We have seen maximum casualties of dengue in Bonakal mandal of Khammam district. However we have immediately asked the healthcare authorities to form special teams and dispatch dengue testing kits to all the rural PHCs for on the spot diagnosis and begin treatment to all the affected patients,” informed the Minister.

Among all the villages in Bonakal mandal of Khammam district, Ravinithula, Govindapuram and Bonakal villages are worst affected. It is alleged that despite of early detection of the rising dengue fever cases, the healthcare authorities have exhibited negligence and have not informed the higher-ups regarding the spread of the disease.

“The state government is making tall claims of providing high quality healthcare to the people, but the situation in the rural areas is totally different. Already 22 deaths have been recorded due to dengue, but till now not a single officer from the health department or the district administration has come. We demand the government to take immediate steps to save the dengue affected patients and pay compensation to those died because of the negligence of the authorities,” opined a patient at Khammam hospital.
