The Romanian pharmaceutical industry is a thriving sector with significant growth in recent years, driven by factors like an aging population and increasing healthcare needs. Key players include both local and multinational companies. The industry encompasses production, distribution (including both wholesale and retail), and retail (pharmacies), with a strong emphasis on research and development.
The National Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Romania (NAMMDR) (Agenția Națională a Medicamentului și a Dispozitivelor Medicale) is the regulatory authority of Romania.
Government policies aim to reduce healthcare costs and improve access to essential medicines, often through promoting generic drug use.
India and Romania have a growing pharmaceutical trade relationship. Romania is actively seeking collaborations with Indian pharmaceutical companies for research, development, and licensing of drugs for the European market.
In 2024, India's exports of pharmaceutical products to Romania were valued at USD 33.45 million, according to Trading Economics.
