With a view to get better clarity on the recent notification issued by the Patent office, the Patent Gurukul will soon be meeting experts from the field to discuss and brainstorm on the concept of traditional knowledge and biodiversity in Mumbai on February 15. It is understood that based on the minutes of the meeting, experts will be framing a representation on this issue to be submitted to the patent office.

The meeting will focus on getting suggestions on the recently released  guidelines for processing of patent applications relating to traditional knowledge, which was recently published on website of Indian patent office. The meeting will also put light on the implications of the biodiversity Act & Rules as well.

Patent Gurukul informed that in view of the extreme approach adopted by the government which is highly detrimental to indigenous research, it is proposed to draft recommendations to the government based on views emerging in the brainstorming session to provide impetus to value added research, based on sustainable development of indigenous resources with practical benefit-sharing model.

Top think tanks from the industry are expected to participate at this event along with the participation of experts in the field, researchers, innovators and students.
