Gujarat FDCA set to modernise, expand its existing offices & labs

Keen on strengthening the drug regulatory mechanism in the state, the Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDA) is planning to gradually increase its infrastructural capabilities in the coming years. They plan to achieve this by adding new food and drug regional offices, while simultaneously modernising and expanding its existing offices.

As a commitment towards setting high standards, Gujarat FDCA with the support of the state government plans to expand and renovate all of its current 27offices and laboratories. Gujarat FDCA has already got the approval from the state government to undergo modernisation of its existing offices so as to meet the changing regulatory requirements.

Dr Hemant G Koshia commissioner of Gujarat FDCA informed that their target is to renovate four offices every year, while simultaneously adding new offices to meet the growing workload.

On its modernisation and infrastructural capacity building measures, he added that to spruce up their activities and achieve best performance, they have already completed the renovation of six existing district offices. While work on the other offices have either began or has been earmarked for the future, he said.

“Gujarat has always been in the forefront of attracting key market players, making it an ideal investment friendly market destination. To boost the confidence in the regulatory mechanism in the state, we have to strive very hard by keeping ourselves updated on the changing regulatory and market dynamics. The state government has also been very proactively supporting us to have a competitive edge. To keep up the standards, we are committed to invest considerable time and money for modernising all our offices, laboratories etc as per the global requirements,” he pointed out.

They have already initiated the work on this, by adding two new district offices in Somanath and Morbi, bringing its current number of offices to 27 district offices. Dr Koshia informed that considering the need to ensure proper functioning of the regulatory work it was deemed utmost essential to further expand and modernise the FDCA offices.

The new offices have been aiding them in consolidating and strengthening their regulatory work in Gujarat. At present, counting this two, there are 27 district level offices in Gujarat under the Gujarat FDCA. It plans to add two new district offices each year under its belt to meet its increasing regulatory needs along with increasing its manpower.
