73rd edition of IPC to be held in Hyderabad from July 5 to 7, 2024

The 73rd edition of the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) will be held at the Hitex Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad from July 5 to 7, 2024. The event will focus on the theme ‘Role of Indian Pharma for Global Wellbeing’.

The return of the IPC to Hyderabad after nine years marks a significant event for the pharmaceutical industry in India as Hyderabad holds a prominent position in the country's pharmaceutical landscape, with a robust ecosystem of research centres, manufacture facilities and pharmacy colleges.

The organisers said that the theme on the role of the Indian pharmaceutical industry for global wellbeing underscores the crucial contribution of companies here in addressing healthcare challenges. India is known for its strength in generic drug manufacturing and providing affordable medicines.

The IPC provides a platform for industry leaders, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to collaborate, exchange ideas, and showcase innovations in pharmaceutical research, development, and manufacturing. The event serves as an opportunity to discuss emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in the pharmaceutical sector, with a focus on enhancing healthcare access, affordability, and quality.

The return of IPC to Hyderabad reinforces Telangana state’s commitment to advancing global health through research and manufacturing innovation. It also mirrors the collaborative efforts of the industry and the government in promoting India as a hub for pharmaceutical research, manufacturing, and exports, thereby contributing to global wellbeing, said the organisers.

The president elect for the event is Dr Bandi Parthasaradhi Reddy, chairman Hetero Drugs,, Dr TV Narayana, national president, Indian Pharmaceutical Association and Hon, secretary, Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association, JAS Giri, chairman local organising committee, Dr Ramakeisha secretary local organising committee and DDC India, CDSCO, T Jayapal Reddy, joint secretary, local organising committee.

According to Dr Narayana, the theme of the event will highlight the latest developments taking place in the pharma profession particularly in science, practice, and education. The 73rd edition will showcase the advances in R&D, It will also bring to the fore the issues faced by academia, hospital and community pharmacists.

Hyderabad has been instrumental in the development and manufacturing of bulk drugs, one-of a kind wearable therapy device for drug-free management of migraine from Dr. Reddy’s Labs, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for Covid prevention, and Biological E’s Corbevax vaccine, which is India's first indigenously developed Covid-19 vaccine that is based on protein sub-unit platform. From Aurobindo Pharma, to Divi's Laboratories, Laurus and Lonza, to name a few, the developments indicate a future pharma pathway. Besides pharma parks coming up in Mucherla near Hyderabad, proposed Hyderabad Pharma City in Kandukur, Yacharam and Kadthal Mandals of Ranga Reddy district in Telangana signifies the city's importance in the pharmaceutical domain.

Hyderabad is the bulk drug capital of India as it contributes over 40 per cent of its production. It is also the vaccine capital of India. The innovation, infrastructure and inclusive growth of Hyderabad is paying rich dividends and the state is ranked second as per the innovative index ranking 2022. The city also leads with the highest per capita income in 2022-23, said Dr Narayana.
