The 27th APTI Conference (APTICON 2024) was officially declared in Hyderabad during the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress jointly by the president of the Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) Prof. Milind Umerkar and the president of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Dr. TV Narayana. The two-day national conference of the Indian pharmacy teachers will be held at the Utkal University in Bhubaneswar on the 27th and 28th of September. This time the program is organized by the eastern regional committee of the teachers’ body. After attending the IPC, the national vice-president and the Local Organizing Committee chairman Dr. Mihir Kumar Kar said APTI will pass five resolutions in the conference and one of them is to be given to the President of India. A second one will be passed to be given to the Prime Minister also. Other three resolutions will be given, one each, to the Union health minister, state chief minister and to the Pharmacy Council of India. He said the office bearers of the APTI assembled in Hyderabad for the two-day IPC meeting and held discussions on the upcoming APTICON 2024. Dr Mihir said the pharmacy teachers association has been advocating for a salary structure and a cadre system for the academic faculties for the last 25 years, but so far no such salary or cadre system was made by any state government in India. So, this time, the association will pass one resolution in this regard and submit it to the president of India. The office bearers will also meet the prime minister to apprise him of the pathetic service conditions of the teachers. This year, a placement drive will be conducted for the students’ welfare in the conference for the two days. “Registrations for the conference has been started in Hyderabad, Rs. 2,500 has been fixed for students and Rs. 2,800 for teachers. We are expecting five thousand teachers and the same number of students from all the eastern states in the country. This is the first time a programme like this is happening in the eastern part of India. The quality of academia, potential of pharmacy students for the betterment of healthcare, collaboration of institutions with industry, change in policies of regulatory and hospitals and cadre system for each degree of pharmacy courses in the health sector are the major contents of the resolutions to be passed in the conference”, he said. In addition to these there will be more than 200 scientific papers presented by various teachers and students. This time prominence will be given for faculties and students from the east and north eastern part of the country for presentation of scientific papers. An important demand through a resolution will be discussed and passed by the teachers this time will be of specification of job vacancies for each pharmacy course. According to APTI office bearers, presently all degree holders are mostly doing the job of dispensing. There should be specified vacancies for B Pharm and M Pharm holders in the healthcare system like Pharm Ds for clinical pharmacists. Dr Mihir is asking that if all the qualified pharmacists are meant for dispensing then why different courses of pharmacy and qualifications have been made. Each diploma or degree should have specific job opportunities in the healthcare system, he said.
